Intro to Happy Mammoth
Happy Mammoth is an Australian-owned company started in response to the founder’s quest for better gut health support options. After talking with Happy Mammoth customers their health research team realized hormone balance, and related symptoms, were something needed by not only their customers but thousands of others. They then expanded their supplements to include products not only for gut health but for hormonal balance, sleep, and mood-boosting.
Hormone Harmony Claims
What they say on their site and in their ads on Instagram and other social media sites is that Hormonal Harmony supports hormone balance, and relieves symptoms of menopause.
They also say it supports cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone levels, promotes healthy weight loss and carbs, curbs carb cravings, improves sleep quality, reduces occasional bloating and gas, relieves hot flashes and mood swings, and boosts energy.
That’s a lot to claim for one product. I will go over the individual ingredients in this blog and tell you what those ingredients typically help with in the sections below.
But I have to say first that it’s hard to find one supplement blend that does all of these things. So if you decide to try Hormone Harmony keep in mind it may help you with some and not all of these symptoms. Now, let’s dive into these ingredients!
Hormone Harmony Ingredients
HM5 Menobalance Complex
The HM5 menobalance complex has maca root, broccoli sprout, chaste tree berry, which is vitex, ashwagandha, and wild am extract.
Maca Root
Maca root has traditionally been used for energy, cortisol boosting, female and male hormone balance, thyroid hormone support, as well as PMS and peri/menopause support. This traditional herb can help support the hypothalamus and pituitary gland functions, and nourish your adrenal glands.
In my functional medicine practice, I have found it particularly helpful for women if they have low cortisol, fatigue, low testosterone, and/or low libido. I also have had patients tell me it has helped them with hot flashes, but these findings are more anecdotal.
Broccoli Sprout
Broccoli Sprout/Sprouts help process estrogen in a healthy way. If you’ve read this blog or watched my videos you know that estrogen can be a bit dominant during the first phase of perimenopause, and in other cases for women with PCOS.
I often use the DUTCH test to look at how a woman is processing her estrogen. Is it being broken down into endpoints that could be more likely to cause estrogen-related cancers? Or is it being pushed out through a healthy detoxification pathway? Broccoli Sprouts or Broccoli Sprout extract is very helpful when estrogen is not being processed in a healthful manner.
Chaste Tree or Vitex
The herb chaste tree, AKA Vitex, can help you restore healthy progesterone levels. Throughout the years of perimenopause, progesterone levels are declining. This often leaves women with insomnia, mood swings, brain fog, and irregular menstrual bleeding.
Chaste Tree can improve the natural production of progesterone and help with sleep and mood. This herb can also help with period regularity, to a certain degree. Meaning that if your periods start getting farther apart this helpful herb can get them back to their normal rhythm.
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha has been used for centuries for cortisol balance, and overall hormone balance including progesterone and estrogen levels. This herb is helpful in perimenopause as it helps to regulate the pituitary hormones FSH and LH which signal the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone, respectively.
A unique feature of Ashwagandha is that it is an adaptogenic herb, meaning it can help boost hormone function or tone it down. They are said to be able to adapt to the needs of hormone balance.
I have used Ashwagandha with my patients for both cortisol and female hormone balance with great success. I also find it to be helpful with brain fog, energy, and PMS-type symptoms.
Menoshred Complex
Moving on to the next major grouping of ingredients: Menoshred complex. This complex may be where this supplement blend is getting it’s weight loss claims from, and some of these ingredients can be helpful. Let’s explore this patented herb complex:
Fennel Seed
Fennel Seed, found in the form of fennel seed powder extract in the Happy Mammoth Hormone Harmony Ingredients list, is the first in the Menoshred complex. There are a few small studies that show that fennel seed powder extract can reduce cravings and reduce overeating.
In my functional medicine practice, I have used fennel seed to help with gut health. This may be also connected to weight loss, given a healthier gut can lead to weight loss.
Berberine
Of the multiple Menoshred ingredients, Berberine is the herb with the most scientific evidence linking it to weight loss. Berberine helps with insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control as well as inflammation, which can lead to weight loss.
In my functional medicine practice, I use berberine for weight management, gut health, and even cholesterol management. I have seen it produce mixed results in terms of weight loss- some women lose weight consistently and significantly, while others lose nothing at all. It seems to all come down to your blood sugar and insulin levels so it’s important to have those checked. If they are on the high end then berberine may be helpful for you. Conversely, if you have low blood sugar levels berberine may make you feel worse.

Gymnema Extract
Gymnema Sylvestre Extract is an herb native to tropical forests and it has been used in Ayurveda for thousands of years. The weight loss benefit of this herb seems to be in its ability to reduce the sweetness of foods.
Additional benefits of Gymnema Extract with regards to weight included its studied ability to lower sugar absorption in the gut, therefore lowering the blood sugar response to that particular food.
Though I haven’t used this in my practice for weight loss, it does have studies backing these claims. Again it would likely be beneficial for women with insulin sensitivity or elevated blood sugar, while also potentially benefiting those who tend to have a sweet tooth.
Rosemary Extract
Rosemary is a familiar herb in the culinary world. This herbal extract as a medicinal herb also has good research behind it. Some studies are show it can inhibit weight gain, but this is in animal studies and particularly in mice with fatty liver. Other studies show no weight benefit at all.
This culinary herb does have other hormone-health benefits for women. In my functional medicine practice, I use Rosemary Extract to help women process their estrogen in a healthy way, and it can be very helpful in the Estrogen Dominant stage of perimenopause.
HM3 MenoMood Complex
The final blend of the Happy Mammoth Hormone Harmony Ingredients list is the proprietary blend of HM3 MenoMood Complex. As stated in the name, this is proposed to help the mood changes found in perimenopause. Let’s take a look at these ingredients.
Chamomile Extract
Chamomile herb is very calming, helping anxiety and even insomnia in some people. This safe herb has been used for centuries in the realm of calming and also for immune boosting, often helping healing from colds and viruses, particularly in its tea form.
American Ginseng
Ginseng is found in many herbal blends and is known to boost energy. Energy levels can decline, as can cognitive (memory/brain) function during the perimenopause and menopause years, so American Ginseng can help combat this.
Additionally, this herb can help lift mood, potentially alleviating depression, a common symptom found during the menopausal transition. Depression is one of the most debilitating symptoms of perimenopause, so anything that may help this is a bonus.
Rhodiola Rosea
Rhodiola rosea is a star player when it comes to cortisol, mood and energy balancing. It also has a long track record of success and safety and I use it often in my practice.
This herb can help improve estrogen receptor activity, meaning it helps with estrogen balance and is an adaptogen like Ashwagandha. Many women experience a boost in mood and a reduction in brain fog when using rhodiola in perimenopause or menopause.
Potential Side Effects: Happy Mammoth Hormone Harmony Ingredients
Herbs, just like medications, always have potential side effects. Even though they are natural they are not always good for everyone.
Insomnia
Though some of these herbs, like Chamomile and Chaste Tree, can help with insomnia, others like American Ginseng and Maca Root, can actually worsen it by being too stimulating. Each persons response is unique, so this doesn’t mean you should not try this blend if you have insomnia, just keep this in mind. In the same way, some of these herbs might make anxiety worse, and some may anxiety better, so this is another potential adverse effect to consider.
Blood Thinning
Some of the herbs in these blends can thin your blood. If you are on a blood thinner like aspirin, Plavix, or Warfarin to name a few, you likely should not take this herbal supplement.
Low Blood Sugar
As noted above a few of the herbs above can help lower your blood sugar, and that can be super helpful for women who experience high blood sugar or insulin resistance in perimenopause. However, if you tend to low blood sugar then this may not be the right blend for you.
Conclusion
Wrapping up this discussion on Happy Mammoth Hormone Harmony ingredients, overall it is a solid supplement blend with many well-researched herbs. It may be helpful with mood swings, insomnia, weight management, blood sugar management, and regulation of periods- all common problems in perimenopause. With so many herbal ingredients, it can’t be perfect for every woman.
It’s always best to discuss your supplement choices with your healthcare provider before you start taking them. You are unique and the internet doesn’t know you- so please don’t skip this step!
