Analysis of Ingredients and Dosage
While the ingredients look promising on paper, let’s dig deeper to see if they’re packing enough punch to make a real difference.
Efficacy of Hydrolyzed Collagen in Gut Repair
Let’s talk collagen! When it comes to gut health, hydrolyzed collagen is getting a lot of buzz- not just for your gut but also for your skin and hair. But does it live up to the hype?
A meta-analysis of 26 studies suggests it is helpful for both gut and skin health and repair- another important feature as skin loses collagen and elasticity in perimenopause and menopause.
Collagen can significantly benefit gut health during perimenopause and menopause by supporting the gut lining, potentially alleviating digestive issues like bloating and discomfort that can be a result of the hormonal roller coaster that is perimenopause. The amino acids in collage, particularly glycine, have soothing and reparative properties for the digestive tract.
Collagen can benefit the skin in perimenopause and menopause through enhancing elasticity and hydration, which tends to diminish during these life stages.
Role of Glycine in Digestive Health- and more
Glycine not only aids digestion but also supports the production of essential neurotransmitters that can improve mood—an often overlooked aspect during hormonal changes.
Because of it’s effect on neurotransmitters glycine also tends to help with sleep. Poor sleep is one of the most common symptoms I see (and I have personally experienced) in perimenopause and menopause. Taking glycine, or products containing glycine, can be beneficial at bedtime for sleep.
L-lysine and Vitamin C
L-lysine and Vitamin C, as noted above, are building blocks in forming healthy collagen. But these two ingredients pull double duty as they can both help boost your immune system, and fight leaky gut and inflammation. So, they pull more than double duty!
XOS and Bacillus Coagulans
There are definitely gut benefits to be had from prebioitics and probiotics strains being in the same product. They work synergistically to help your microbiome, or gut ecosystem, thrive.
But the amount of probiotics in Happy Mammoth Complete Gut Repair could be a bit more robust. There are only 300 million CFUs (colony forming units). This may sound like a lot but when it comes to probiotics we are usually talking billions of CFUs with multiple strains that make up a well rounded probiotic.
But Bacillus Coagulans offers benefits outside of the gut- this strain of beneficial bacteria can also help your immune system, improve allergies, and it may even boost athletic performance!
To help this product work even better I recommend pairing it with a more rounded probiotic. If you are also experiencing urinary tract infections or bacterial vaginosis, then Venus Vital by Happy Mammoth is a great option.
Or a product like SEED ds-01, which contains multiple beneficial strains to help your gut, heart health, skin health, and reduce inflammation. Another favorite is OrthoBiotic by Orthomolecular- it contains so many beneficial strains to help gut health, reduce infection, and help mood.
Dosage Review of Complete Gut Repair by Happy Mammoth
The dose for Complete Gut Repair is 1 scoop daily. It can be mixed with water, a smoothie, or any type of juice, milk, or milk alternative.
Compared to other brands that are solely collagen, you may find the dose a bit lighter. For every 15 grams scoop you get 9.8 grams of collagen. In comparison, a popular product like Vital Proteins Collagen contains 20 grams of collagen. As noted above the probiotic dose is a bit light too.
Positive Feedback from Users
If you look at their website you can see Happy Mammoth’s got some seriously satisfied customers singing their praises. I have also found it to be helpful for bloating, and irritable bowel symptoms like irregularity.
But it’s not just about tummy troubles. Users (both online and those I have worked with personally) are reporting a whole host of benefits:
- Increased energy
- Clearer skin
- Better mood
- Better Sleep
Just remember, your mileage may vary. Keep reading to know if this product might NOT be right for you.
Recommendations for Potential Users
Thinking about giving Happy Mammoth Gut Repair a whirl? Before you dive in, consider these pearls of wisdom:
- Chat with your doc, especially if you’re juggling other meds, you want to be sure it’s not going to interfere with anything your taking.
- Start slow and steady. Try 1/4 scoop, then build up to 1/2 scoop after a few days, then 3/4 of a scoop, then eventually the full scoop after about 6-7 days.
- If this product causes your gut to feel more bloated consistently with a few days of repeated use, then you may want to consider stopping and getting checked for SIBO. This is an imbalance in the small intestine and it can be triggered by prebiotics like XOS or even probiotics like Bacilus Coagulans.
- This product contains Stevia, so if you don’t do well with Stevia it might not be the best fit for you
- Keep a symptom diary to track your progress
- Don’t expect miracles overnight – give it at least a month
Remember, your gut’s as unique as your fingerprint. What works for your bestie might not be your cup of tea. Listen to your body and trust your instincts!
Conclusion
Happy Mammoth Gut Repair shows promise, but it’s not a magic bullet. While many women report positive results, sometimes it’s not the right fit. If it triggers any symptoms then definitely consider getting follow up testing to see what else might be going on.
